With an increase in creative jobs in the South West, we thought we’d share with you why Bristol is fast becoming one of the UK’s most influential creative hub’s, and why it should be considered as a great place to live and work. Adopting all the benefits of the country’s capital but at a much more manageable size, Bristol is the home of controversial artistry. Banksy alone stands as one of the major reasons why it has become so easy to fall in love with the city and what it has to offer. The mass celebration of street art – along the likes of festivals like Upfest (https://www.upfest.co.uk/) – contributes to the cities vibrant creative culture and sense of community spirit.
Close to the coast and some of Britain’s most treasured holiday destinations, Bristol’s location offers attractive surfing weekend getaways alongside well-connected rail links to the UK’s major cities. In-keeping with the forward-thinking nature of the city, one of the most rewarding ways to travel around Bristol is by bike. Back in 2008 the city was named England’s first cycling city, now flourishing as a bike friendly haven it would be rude not to utilise the award-winning cycle network for a more interactive way to embrace the city.
Beyond the liveliness of the city’s streets Bristol exhibits many contemporary museums and galleries homed to an ever-inspiring and ever-changing calendar of events. The city has a history of innovative culture with strong roots in engineering, aerospace and technology, with further renowned success in start-up business. Boeing, Hewlett Packard and Toshiba are just some of the key players to come out of Bristol as well as the outstanding future talent emerging out of the city’s top Universities. With Aerospace Bristol opening in 2017 contributing as one of the cities amazing new venues for corporate events, placing the city in a league above in regard to impressive spaces.
Now for the most important bit, food and entertainment. The city is home to an array of award winning independent restaurants, bars and cafes that reflect the rich mix of cultures found in the dynamic community. Whether you’re a meat-enthusiast or plant-lover the choice of grub will not disappoint. One of the most famous foodie favourites is Pieminister – cooking great tasting pies since 2003. Food is also celebrated at Grillstock festival held in the city offering a full-blown weekend of “Meat, Music and Mayhem.” – ready to move? We are.
If that doesn’t float your boat, the summer months are jam packed with music festivals covering various genre’s. Love Saves the Day, the most up and coming festival among the millennial generation combines the best of Bristol’s thriving underground scene with pioneering artists across the globe, all passionate about creativity and entertainment. Bristol’s not short of any family orientated fun either, home to a spectacular International Balloon Fiesta this event is Europe’s largest annual meeting of hot air balloons, filling the city’s skyline with over 130 balloons.
In addition to the city’s most admirable qualities, Bristol was awarded the Green Capital in 2015 gaining its reputation as “progressive, creative and conscious approach to urban living”. Bristol certainly is a city with an unmistakable identity, bursting with opportunity and inspiration, it resides as the ideal habitat for ambitious creatives.
