This week, we ask Simon “How do I find a job I love”

Do what you love and love what you do. That’s the career dream we are all after right? With so many people in jobs where they are uninspired, under- appreciated and underpaid, Simon shares his advice this week on how you can find a job you love.

  1. Work in an industry you are passionate about When I was a lad I wanted to be a Singer (I did used to be in a band actually but I’ll tell that story another time) and I never imagined I’d be working in the recruitment industry. Like most people I fell into my career, but what’s kept me in it is because I am passionate about the retail industry and the people we work with. When you’re passionate about something you flourish, so pick an industry that makes you tick!
  2. Make the most of your talent – We are all good at something, whether or not you have the qualifications to match, and when you use your skills in the workplace, this can make for a very rewarding career.
  3. Look for a job that suits your lifestyle  – Are you ready to jet off across the world? Or want to make sure you can come home from a day’s work and spend time with the family (that’s what I like to do). There’s no right or wrong answer, as we are all at different points in our lives, but always consider how your lifestyle will be affected when choosing your next move.
  4. Pick a company with the right culture – When you go for an interview, it’s easy to get a vibe for a company and you’ll know if you can see yourself working there. When it comes to work -culture, consider what’s important to you! From the company ethos, to out-of-work activities, and from holiday allowance to healthcare; finding an employer that ticks the boxes that are important to you gives you that extra comfort and reassurance that will make you happy at work.
  5. Pick a company that can support your career prospects – If there’s one thing for sure, your career is always evolving. Year on year you are acquiring new skills and experience and no one likes getting stuck in a rut. So ask yourself where do you see yourself three, five or ten years from now. If your employer can support your goals in the long term you’ll always have a job that you love!
